They can enter your home through the tiniest cracks in search of exposed food. Once they find food, they leave an invisible chemical trail of pheromones for other pests to follow. No, we aren't talking about aliens who crave sugar. We're talking about Ants!
Ants are one of the biggest pests in Las Vegas (unless you count those peddlers who are constantly trying to shove dirty flyers in your hands). You can find ant nests anywhere, so it makes them more challenging to treat and control. The great news is that ant control is included in our basic service agreement so there will be no additional charge for you.
The scary thing is that even when you think you must have seen hundreds of them, in all reality you've probably only seen 10-15% of the actual colony out at a time. In fact any given colony can number between 300,000 to 500,000! So if they aren’t taken care of quickly, you could have a huge problem on your hands. Unlike other insects, they can be found year round. And fortunately for us all, Evolve Pest Control can easily treat your ant infestations.
There are many different types of ants. Some of the most common species in Nevada include (but definitely aren’t limited to):
The Argentine Ant: This type of ant is the most common. It is light brown to brown in color and only 1/16” long. They typically next near moisture like water pipes. They love to eat anything sweet best. They can have massive colonies.
The Big Headed Ant: It is light brown to reddish brown in color and is 1/16”-1/14” long. They have small colonies and you’ll find them in little ant mounds or wood. They like to eat insects, grains, and honeydew (a secretion that comes from aphids and other scale insects that is sticky and sugary) best.
The Carpenter Ant: It is black in color and about 1/8”-1/2” long. They eat insects and love honeydew, but definitely love to eat anything with lots of protein. Their colonies have many thousand. They get their name from the fact that they typically nest in wood (especially if it’s weak or rotting). They don’t actually eat the wood though, like termites. They just chew it up. They can do some real damage to structures though.
The Pavement Ant: It is light brown to black in color and typically about 1/16” – 1/8” in length. They eat insects, and food scraps they can find (cover your food and keep your counters and floors clean). As you can tell by the name, this ant will usually nest under concrete. They typically have colonies of several thousand.
The Red Fire Ant: It is reddish brown in color and is about 1/8”-1/4” in length. They have a very painful, venomous sting that has a burning feeling to it. People can have allergic reactions to them, so make sure you pay attention to your symptoms. They have very aggressive swarming behavior. They build mounds in any type of soil and they can get up to 2 feet tall. The mounds are usually located in or around rotted logs and stumps and they prefer open, sunny areas that are near a source of moisture. It rapidly reproduces and has large colonies. They love protein best and have been know to attack small animals and kill them.
