A Step-By-Step Guide To Scorpion Prevention For Your Vegas Home

Creatures are often defined by the fear they spark in people. Lions are the king of the jungle because of their strength. Sharks are the alpha predator of the sea because of their speed and dangerous bites. Scorpions may be one of the most feared creatures of all. Portrayed in many movies as vicious tiny killers, scorpions have made a name for themselves for the pain and danger they pose with their stings. The only question is, are scorpions in Vegas and the surrounding areas as dangerous as those in the movies? And is there any way you can keep them out of your home? Let’s find out now.

What Is The Bark Scorpion?

Here in Las Vegas we only really have one type of scorpion to worry about, and that is the bark scorpion. These light brown arachnids are fairly small, roughly three inches long when fully grown. These predatory creatures are equipped with not only two pinchers to grab their prey with but also a long segmented tail topped with a dangerous stinger.

Typically, bark scorpions are found outside living in cold shaded areas such as beneath rocks, within piles of lumber, or even beneath the bark of trees. Go figure. When inside homes, bark scorpions will follow the same pattern by hiding in dark storage closets. It is not uncommon to find these eight-legged horrors climbing up walls or completely upside-down clung too the ceiling. These little buggers love to climb.

Problems Associated With Bark Scorpions

The first thing we should address with bark scorpions is how dangerous they are. Fortunately, they aren’t as deadly as some of the other scorpions you may see in the movies. They are still, however, quite dangerous. Although you are unlikely to die from one of their stings, you will experience a fair amount of pain partnered with symptoms such as difficulty breathing, unusual head, eye, or neck movements, sweating, nausea, muscle twitching, high blood pressure, and a sped-up heart rate. If stung by one of these creatures it is recommended to seek medical help immediately to minimize the above symptoms and your risk of further injury.

One of the biggest problems associated with bark scorpions is how good they are at hiding. Most often people don’t know they are about to run into a bark scorpion until they have been stung. This can happen when you are moving things in your yard, rustling through a storage closet, or even just from walking around the wrong corner in your home.
